Looking for an aural cinematic listening experience? Look no further than Raygun Carvers Moon Fields Yawning! Laden with layers of meticulously crafted backing tracks Moon Fields Yawning is a dense, dark trip down lifes highway that could easily pair as a soundtrack with filmmakers Jim Jarmusch or David Lynch. The opening track “Water” is beautifully arranged, its lush strings evoking a sense of goodness and hope but then quickly pivoting to hopelessness, despair and possible fatalism. “Wrong Way” stands out as my favorite track in its depiction of being lost while driving through fog. With little imagination one can sense cool dampness and disorientation. “Oblivion” laces old Irish parables with the topic of substance abuse while “Yeah Yeah” explores the highs and lows of love, commitment and relationships. For the ultimate experience I recommend listening to the entire EP in a quite space and under headphones. Moon Fields Yawning is a short aural film noir that will leave you wondering what its next scene will be….an outstanding debut!
